1957: Barbara makes her first rag-dolls with her grandmother
12 years had passed since the Second World War, Poland was rebuilding, and the Communists ruled the country. Barbara was a young girl and although materials were scarce, she used old Polish rural traditions and methods to create her first-ever collection of rag-dolls with the help of her grandmother. “I will never forget my grandma, she inspired in me the thought and will to create, to make something out of nothing, to improve on what is already there.” - Barbara Bukowski
1985: The creation of Kanini
After marrying the love of her life, Janusz Bukowski, Barbara became pregnant with her first son, Patrick. While she awaited the arrival of her child, she suddenly heard the voice of her beloved grandma instructing her on where to cut and sew. In just a few days, a rabbit who would later be known as Kanini was created. He was Patrick’s best friend.
1987: Oliver is born
Barbara’s experience as a parent of two along with her background in psychology had given her a deep understanding of the importance of love in the beginning phases of a child’s life. She channeled all of her energy, creativity, and love when creating her second-ever teddy bear, Misiulinek.
1990: Bukowski Design is born
Barbara’s goal in life was to be a voice of love and inspiration in people’s hearts. With this in mind, she and Janusz finally created Bukowski Design, now known as Bukowski bears.
